Employment Specialist, Full Time (Bilingual Spanish)
The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive employment services to survivors of domestic violence with the ultimate goal of helping clients’ secure meaningful employment. This would include workforce skills training, job development, job referral, job placement, and job readiness. The Employment Specialist will also coordinate ESL, GED and computer literacy, and job skills workshops. This position will work with the entire team of Advocates to support clients in creating a path from crisis to self-sufficiency assisting clients in achieving personal, financial, employment, and housing goals
- In collaboration with Advocates, plan and assess current work skills training needs for NDS. Develop and facilitate, or work with collaborating agencies where feasible, to develop curriculum and training materials for ESL, GED, computer literacy, and job search/skills workshops. Evaluate results and initiate changes to the curriculum as needed.
- Counsel and guide clients in developing career and/or employment goals. Provide individual support and encouragement to clients, identifying client needs, setting goals, making referrals, and track client progress. In collaboration with the Advocates, explore with the client community resources available to help address barriers and focusing on job retention. Receive briefings from the Advocates on client safety planning, risk assessment, and crisis intervention as necessary and consider those in all employment activities and support the clients to ensure safety.
- Develop and foster professional relationships with local employers, placement agencies, and community agencies to ensure consistent contact for job leads and employment resources within the community.
- Help match job-seeking clients and employers using a variety of professional job placement skills.
- Maintain case files. Track program/grant required statistics and summarize in report form.
- May provide interpretation assistance for non-English speaking clients
- Maintain up-to-date training on domestic violence and other related topics
- BA, BSW or AA degree plus 3 years of experience in the provision of domestic violence services
- Knowledge of trauma-informed services
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse population.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
- Knowledge of current labor market trends.
- Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to complex employment issues.
- Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity laws and other local, state, and federal laws pertaining to employment.
- Knowledge of effective training techniques and adult learning theory.
- Skill in effective group facilitation.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects or to change priorities quickly and frequently.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines
- Must be available for occasional evening assignments
- Knowledge of domestic violence with 40-hour Domestic Violence Training certificate preferred
