Next Door Solutions to Host Annual Girls Got the Blues Benefit Concert

SAN JOSE, CA – Feb. 24, 2020Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence, Santa Clara County’s oldest and largest non-profit domestic violence service provider, today announced it will host its annual Blues for a Cause benefit concert to support efforts to provide services for survivors of domestic violence.  General admission tickets are $30 in advance and $40 on the day of the show. 

The event is intended to raise community awareness about the services provided in Santa Clara County by Next Door Solutions, including a shelter for victims, a 24-hour hotline, support groups, legal representation and more. This year’s event marks the 7th annual concert and will include a raffle with proceeds to benefit Next Door Solutions.

The line-up for this year’s band will once again be led by Lara Price, vocalist, guitarist, and band leader who has been nominated for Soul Blues Female artist by the Blues Foundation. She has been a long-time supporter of Next Door Solutions’ mission and survivor services, appearing at many of the organization’s events to raise awareness about domestic violence. Price is currently on tour in California and is including this event for the specific purpose of supporting this annual show. 

Girls Got the Blues is an all-star, female blues band and is a project whose vision was realized by Price in 2012. Girls Got the Blues band members come together once a year for this important event. Along with Lara Price, this year’s line-up includes: Janice Maxie Reid on keyboards and vocal; Pam Hawkins on vocals; Ariane Cap on base; Robin Roth on drums; and Dolly Rappaport on sax. The band will also include back-up vocalists Sue McCracklin and Maureen Smith. The concert will also feature special guest vocalists such as Tia Carrol and Marina Crouse, along with Ken Harrell on guitar.

“Every year, the members of Girls Got the Blues gets the year off to great start in support our efforts to combat domestic violence and raise awareness about the programs at Next Door Solutions,” said Esther Peralez-Dieckmann, executive director of Next Door Solutions. “This is the seventh year we have put on Blues for a Cause. The commitment of these women to lend their talent and appear year after year is a reflection of the tremendous success and support the South Bay Community has for this event. We invite the general public to join us and enjoy a great afternoon of music for a good cause in supporting victims of domestic violence.”

Quick facts about domestic violence:

  • Over the last five years, the average length of stay at Shelter Next Door has increased 52%, from 25 days to 38 days – some families needed to stay for 90 days or longer.
  • In Santa Clara County, since 1994, there have been an average of 12 domestic violence-related deaths each year
  • Next Door Solutions received nearly 15,000 calls to its 24/7 hotline during the course of the last year
  • More than 2,700 Santa Clara County residents received nearly 23,000 services from Next Door Solutions, including shelter, crisis counseling, peer counseling, risk assessment, safety planning, case management, assistance with basic needs, information and referrals, and advocacy with other service providers
  • Of those, more than 580 clients received 2,400 services from Next Door Solutions for legal advocacy, assistance with filing temporary restraining orders, case consultations, and court accompaniment

ARIANE CAP ~ Bass~ Austrian Ariane Cap is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, author, blogger, and composer. An eclectic and versatile bassist, she has covered many styles, from Rock (Keith Olsen/Fleetwood Mac), Jazz (Mimi Fox, Montclair Women’s Big Band) to Folk and Flamenco
ROBIN ROTH~ Drummer ~ powerhouse drummer Robin Roth, aka The Groove Queen, is known for her driving rhythm and uplifting stage presence. Performing everything from Polka to Punk, her resume includes playing, recording and traveling with Blues singer Angela Strehli, rocker Shanna Morrison, alt-rockers Me Jane as well as many years with the late Johnny Nitro and The Doorslammers.
DOLLY RAPPAPORT~Saxreleased her first album, “Here to There”[1999], earning critical acclaim, numerous awards, and was the impetus and inspiration for her two subsequent albums. With a rare combination of an unforgettable voice, world-class saxophone, and masterful piano highlighting her live performance.
