In 1971, Bea Robinson Mendez, a victim of domestic violence, had little in the way of legal support, community advocacy, or a safe place to go. She recognized the lack of services to address the safety and unique needs of victims of domestic violence and their children. She rallied a group of friends, Latinas, and established a hotline number out of her garage, with each of the group members taking turns fielding the calls and providing information and support.

Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence is pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia Hunter as Director of Programs and Policy effective August 16, 2021. A known and recognized leader in the Domestic Violence movement in California, she brings enormous experience and knowledge to our efforts to end domestic violence in the moment and for all time.

We, the Bay Area Domestic Violence Shelter Collaborative, stand in solidarity with Asian and Asian-American communities who continue to face unimaginable violence and hate across the country.

The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 100 to 0. The fund is used to support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the individuals who were killed in the VTA Mass shooting on May 26, 2021. Labeled the worst Bay Area mass shooting in decades, many still struggle to understand why this happened.  It was discovered that the perpetrator had a history of inflicting violence and abuse on an ex-partner.
